Hassan Travel Guide
Hassan is the Headquarters of the Malanad District. The original town was adjacent to the Village Channapatna. It was founded in the 11th century, by Channa Krishnappa Naik, a Palegar. The place is called Hassan after the Goddess "Hasanamba", the smiling Goddess, presiding deity of the town. The temple of Hasanamba will be opened only once in a year about a week, during the second Ashwayuja (October). A big Jatra(shandi or fair) will be held on this occasion.

Hassan is 194 kms from Bangalore is the District Headquarters of Hassan. This quiet and peaceful town is a convenient base to visit Shravanabelagola, Belur and Halebid. Hassan offers a wide variety of accommodations. It is well-connected by road and rail to Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore. Hassan is located in the south Indian state of Karnataka around 185 km from Bangalore. The place is an ideal base to explore the historical sites of Belur, Halebid, and Shravanbelgola. It was under the control of great Hoysala Empire during 11th to 13th century AD. This was the period when the great temples of Belur and Halebid were constructed.
